Ceramic Frit

A frit is a ceramic composition that has been fused, quenched, and granulated. Frits form an important part of the batches used in compounding enamels and ceramic glazes.

Frits are used in ceramic glazes for a wide range of reasons. They are glass powders of controlled chemistry with many advantages over raw materials.

A ceramic glass that has been premixed from raw powdered minerals and then melted, cooled by quenching in water, and ground into a fine powder.

In general, higher percentages of frit enable better fired quality, lower melting temperature, fewer defects, better clarity, smoother surface, brighter colors, faster firing, and lower thermal expansion.
